Chez Cartaud self catering gite
near St Jean d'Angely in
Charente Maritime, France
The open plan downstairs has lounge, dining area kitchen equipped with top loading
washing machine, microwave, gas oven/grill and 4 ring gas hob. The thick exposed
stone walls help keep the cottage cool in the hot summer. The sitting room has a
television (french language) and a feature Charentaise fireplace. It has a tiled floor which
also helps keep the cottage cool. The cottage is typically charentaise and has been
renovated to a high standard and fitted with modern facilities to make your stay
comfortable and enjoyable. The kitchen is equipped with all the essentials for a great
self catering stay.
The swimming pool is 9m by 4m
and has Roman steps leading down
into it. It is surrounded by a terrace
with sun loungers. It is located at the
side of Eric and Maries house, just
to the front of the cottage so is
easily accessed. It has an alarm to
conform to the French regulations
but it is not enclosed which may be
a concern to parents of very young
children. It is not often used by Eric
and Marie themselves as they are
very busy, but it is used occasionally
by their daughter so it is not totally
for the exclusive use of the cottage
guests. Its location is in front of the
Cartauds outdoor eating area, they
are happy for you to use the pool
area even when they are eating but
please be polite and friendly and
considerate with regards to noise.
This traditional French owned self catering gite lies in the tiny hamlet of Corpeteau. The
gite sleeps four in two bedrooms, a double and a twin. It has an open plan ground floor
with corner kitchen, dining and living areas. Upstairs are the two cottage bedrooms and
a shower room. There is an outdoor terrace overlooking a large garden. The cottage lies
at the back of the French owners own home and therefore has use of the owners
swimming pool. It is perfect for a family with children who are looking for peace and quiet
but also want to experience the real France and have the rare opportunity of mixing with
the locals.
Eric and Marie-Agnes Cartaud are a
lovely French couple who were born
and grown up in this area. They have
three grown up daughters and two
young grandchildren. Eric is a farmer
and wine maker. He has vines all over
the area and you will certainly taste
some of his produce whilst you are
staying in their cottage. They are very
friendly but also very busy, however
they are always available if you need
something or want to ask a question.
The cottage was originally their own
home when they were first married and
before they renovated the large house
in front, as their family grew. This
means the cottage has a lot of
sentimental value to them and they only
want families staying in it who will
respect this and who are friendly,
willing to say Bonjour and will clean the
cottage thoroughly afterwards.  Eric is
a viticulteur, he makes wine, Pineau
(the local tipple and Cognac) he has a
small 'shop' on the other side of his
house where you can taste his produce
and if you are friendly and chatty you
may even get an exclusive visit into his
small wine making area.
Corpeteau is just 5 miles east of
the beautiful historic town of St
Jean D'Angely in the Charente
maritime region of Western
France. An easy 4 hour drive from
the port of St Malo and an easy 1
hours drive from the airport of La
Rochelle. St Jean d'Angely has all
major facilities such as
supermarkets, a twice weekly local
market, banks, cafes and a good
selection of restaurants from
bistros and pizzerias to top class
cuisine. The coast and beaches
are just an easy 1 hours drive
away as are La Rochelle,
Rochefort and Royan. Saintes and
Cognac are just a 30 min drive, so
there is plenty to see and do in the
area.

When staying at Chez Cartaud you
will be invited to join in all the
childrens activities held at
